Vesta Williams Found Dead in Hotel – 22nd September 2011
I woke up to the sad news that 1980 RNB and Soul singer Vesta Williams was found dead in her El Segundo Hotel room(South California, Usa) on 22nd Sept 2011 at 6:15 pm.
It has come as a big shock to me personally and to many people around the world. We are still yet to be told of the cause of death at the moment.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner's Capt. John Kades an autopsy will determine the cause of death. A toxicology examination will take six weeks to be completed, Kades said.
Vesta Williams whose real name is Mary Vesta Williams was born on the 1st of December 1957, in Coshocton, Ohio, Usa. Her family moved to California, USA in the 1960s. After gaining musical experience in many bands and session work that she was given.
Vesta secured a recording contract with A&M Records which released her debut album Vesta in 1986.
The album became a modest seller on the R&B Albums Chart and it featured her first Top 10 R&B hit (Vesta Williams was found dead in her El Segundo Hotel room - in South California, Usa on 22nd Sept 2011), which also became her only UK hit Williams’s small frame and statue surprised a lot of people via her powerful, soulful voice.
Her success within the music industry came about as a background singer for artists ranging from Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, and Sting.
However, Vesta would eventually establish her career with the release of her first album, "Vesta," in 1986.
For me, the album called Vesta was the one that got me hooked on her. I loved the tracks called “Once Bitten Twice Shy” and “Vesta”. These tracks allowed me to look for more Vesta tracks in the future.
Over the years, she gathered a few more hits including “Sweet, Sweet Love" and her signature torch song "Congratulations."
Vesta Williams continued to make albums and was a regular performer on the concert circuit.
In a recent interview, Vesta told Ebony magazine that she began gaining weight rapidly after her singing career started to falter. She blamed her size for the loss of her recording contract.
When I lost my record deal and my phone wasn't ringing, I realized that I had to reassess who Vesta was and figure out what was going wrong," she said. "I knew it wasn't my singing ability. So it had to be that I was expendable because I didn't have the right look."
Vesta Williams has also appeared in movies and on television. For instance, she was featured as a saloon singer in the Mario Van Peebles movie called "Posse"; and she had a recurring role in the television situation comedy "Sister, Sister," playing actress Jackee Harry's best friend Monica.
Williams was supposed to perform at the 21st annual "DIVAS Simply Singing!" in Los Angeles, USA next month. The Oct. 22, 2011 show will now pay tribute to her and another late soul singer, Teena Marie.
Singer and music producer, Norwood Young, received word from members of Vesta’s own family that she (Vesta Williams) passed away from complications of an enlarged heart. The Williams family was given the autopsy report a “day or two ago” according to Young,
Young said, “Although it’s a sad situation overall, it’s great news to find that Vesta’s death, as I said from the very beginning, was not drug-related. Vesta did indeed die from an enlarged heart. As we know, an enlarged heart can remain undetected in the body for many, many years.” - please click on this link to find out more - Euro Web report reveals Autopsy report for Vesta Williams - Dec 2011
