Who's Bad?? 25 years on and it's still making all the news - 2012
The date when he died was the 29th of June 2009. Wow time does fly, doesn’t it? The World's Greatest Pop music entertainer has left us. But is he forgotten? Hmmmmmmmm…..
Well even in death Michael Jackson never seems to leave the news.
News about Mr. Jackson has been about for a while in regards to this intended film/documentary that was to be made about the album called BAD. Michael is in the news again as the album called BAD is now 25 years old. Yes, BAD has reached 25 years old can you believe that?
Let's take a look at the history of the album
The album known as BAD was Michael Jackson's 7th studio album and was released on this date - August 31st, 1987. It was Michaels's first or latest release after the previous mega-selling album that was called Thriller.
The album that was/is BAD has sold an estimated 30 to 45 million copies worldwide, and now is rated as the 5th best-selling album of all time.
Michael Jackson (here is another record fact to be mentioned) is the only artist to have 3 album titles within the best-selling album category of all time.
The album went on to produce another first. It brought forth another feat which was to see 5 number one singles come from this one album within the USA, via the Billboard charts. The first album to do so be precise.
The Bad Project allowed Michael Jackson to have even more artistic control of any album releases than before.
For instance, on this album, Michael composed 9 of the 11 tracks on the album. The album was rumored to have it artists of the caliber such as Prince, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin. Adding to the anticipation of the album, before release time. But unfortunately, these artists did not materialize in the finished product.
Now the film director, Spike Lee is putting out a film documenting the hard work behind the scenes and the success of making Michael Jackson‘s seminal Bad album. The film premiere is said to be taking place at the Venice Film Festival in Italy on the 31st of August 2012, on what would have been Michael Jackson's 54th birthday.
Rumors have it that the film/documentary will feature huge musical idols in their own right - Artists such as Mariah Carey, Kayne West, and Sheryl Crow have been noted to feature in the film. All of them have their perspectives of their time around either Michael Jackson or his influence within his work.
This is what Spike Lee himself states on what we expect to see within the film/documentary Bad.
“We have the footage in this documentary that no one's ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff. We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson. ...
He wrote 60 demos for the Bad Record. Only 11 made it. So we got to hear a lot of that stuff, too, so it was just a great experience."

This coincides with an album release around the same time as the film release. “Bad 25 the album” will be re-released on September 18, 2012, in cooperation with Legacy Recordings, Sony Music, and MJJ Productions.
Along with the original album, Bad 25 will contain unreleased demo recordings and a live CD and DVD of Jackson's performance at Wembley Stadium, London during his Bad World Tour, which was attended by Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
It was announced earlier in the year that various formats of Bad 25 the album will be released at the same time on September 18th, 2012.
Apparently, the album will be a two-disc set that will include the original album, as well as unreleased material recorded during the Bad sessions.
The material includes early demo versions of songs from the album, demos of songs not included in the final album and remixes.
A DVD of Jackson's July 16, 1988 performance in Wembley Stadium, London will also be released.
My recollection of this tour
I have a personal recollection of this tour as I went to the Bad tour, at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 23rd July 1988, It was an immense and spectacular event. I remember arriving at Liverpool Street train station (London) after traveling down from Ipswich Town Train Station here in England.
You could feel the electricity in the air as you stepped down onto the platform of Liverpool Street station.
It was to be Michaels’ last show in London in regards to the Bad Tour. I was lucky to get a ticket after applying several times through many music outlets the previous months before the concerts took place.
Eventually arriving at the stadium there was a buzz and electricity that I hadn’t felt at any other MUSIC concert that I had ever attended.
It seemed that I was taking part in a concert that would be making history. Fans of all descriptions were there. Young and old, all types of creeds, photographers, ticket touts, etc, etc.
I have since learned that the European leg of the BAD TOUR was the most successful of all the dates that he did.
The ones that he did within London at Wembley Stadium saw ticket demand or ticket sales for the five July dates exceeded 1.5 million, enough to fill the 72,000-capacity venue 20 times.
Michael Jackson performed seven sold-out shows, beating the previous record held by Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, and Genesis. More shows than that could have been added, but the venue had reached its quota for live performances at that time.
When he eventually appeared on stage the roar was something like any World Cup final roar, Olympic 100 Metres final, or Heavyweight boxing event all rolled into one.
He was something else on stage. He seemed to love the stage more than anything in his life.
He was/is one of the greatest frontmans/entertainers ever to "grace" the music business.
And yes he did the “Moonwalk” on more than one occasion that day that I witnessed him.
All we have left now is his music and this latest documentary film to look back on. I just can’t believe that 25 years have gone since this album was released.
Yes, I made sure I got a copy of this when it first came out all the years ago. You know what I am going to dust the vinyl and play it on my turntables. Remember turntables???
