His tagline was “Overweight Lover Heavy D” within the many Raps tracks that he did during his career. Heavy D as he was known, died in the City of Los Angeles, USA on Tuesday 8th November 2011. The performer was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after being found in an exterior hallway of his apartment building, according to TMZ.
His neighbors have said he had a heart attack, though it has not yet been confirmed. The website (TMZ.COM) spoke to law enforcement, who recounted Myers' last moments.
'Heavy D had just returned from shopping and walked up some stairs when he began having trouble breathing.'
Adam Mills, a designer who was in the building and knew Heavy D, found him leaning against a railing and clearly in distress.'
Mills spoke to TMZ.com, telling them that he cradled the rapper in his lap as others called 911.
Heavy D was conscious at the time, telling Mills: 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe.'
When the paramedics arrived, he still had a pulse.
A police statement read:'There are no obvious signs of foul play, and at this time his death is believed to be medically related.'
The case has been referred to the Coroner's Office to determine the official cause of death.
The star, who enjoyed success during the nineties, was pronounced dead at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, in Los Angeles, USA at 1 pm.
Heavy D we have found out had lost 150lbs in 2008. Heavy D was embarking on daily runs and frequent gym sessions having fallen off the health wagon. Local neighbors have speculated he died following a heart attack and also claimed he was suffering pneumonia - although official autopsy results are still to be released.
It appears that Heavy D's weight has gone up and down over the years.
One of his most recent trainers spoke to TMZ.COM, saying Heavy D was working out six to seven times in the lead-up to his death.
Tributes for the lead rapper of Heavy D and the Boyz came out thick and fast from all corners of the music industry.
Rapper Diddy - real name Sean Combs - had a special connection to the dead rapper.
"Heavy D is the person who gave me my 1st chance in the music industry,' he revealed.'He got me my internship at Uptown. He believed when no one else did. My Heart is Broken. Pls, pray for my man Heavy D and his Family. PLS, #RipHeavyD love you, Boy. 4ever"
It was during the late 1980s and early 1990s that Heavy D and his group called the Boyz were to become one of the figures of Rnb/Hip-Hop Music music within that period.
He was the lead rapper/singer of the group which saw Heavy D and the Boyz becoming the first group to be signed by the New York label called Uptown Record Records (New York) owned by the thenPuff Daddy.
Uptown Records (New York, USA) decided to market Heavy D and Boyz by merging or better still bridging the divide of the music of Hip-Hop and Rnb together for them to play and put out in general to the Public.
Most of the early hits from Heavy D and the Boyz such as “Somebody for Me”, and “Girlz They Love Me” allowed Heavy D to show off his dance moves, and flashy clothing and utter the words “Underweight Lover Heavy D” within his raps.

However, his biggest hit was with the track called “Now that We’ve Found Love”(recorded in 1991) which was originally recorded by The O’Jays; which was then covered soon after by the Reggae group called Third World who themselves had a massive worldwide hit with the same track before Heavy D.
The album called Peaceful Journey made in 1991 from which their biggest hits came was dedicated to a group member who died soon after the album's release from a fall that happened when the group was on tour in 1990.
The group member in question who died was known as Trouble T-Roy.
Heavy D's real name is Dwight Arrington Myers and he was born on the 24th of May 1967 in Mandeville, Jamaica. He was the son of Eulahlee Lee, a nurse, and Clifford Vincent Myers, a machine technician.
His family moved to Mount Vernon in New York, the USA in the early 1970s, where he was raised. It was in the city of New York that he got his first real chance in music.
In the mid-1990s his progression within the scene of urban Hip-Hop/Rap saw him eventually become president of Uptown Records.
This led to him being asked to perform on Janet Jackson’s record called “Alright” (1990), and then on Michael Jackson’s record called “Jam”.

The Group that he was involved in called Heavy D and the Boyz gained even more fame by singing the theme tune for the comedy series called Living Colour (An afro-American focused comedy sketch show).
Heavy D then began focusing on his acting, appearing in various television shows before returning to the music charts with Nuttin but Love.
He also appeared in the video/music track that starred Faith Evans and Biggie Smalls on the track called “One More Chance” during the year 1995.
Heavy D only just recently performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2011. It was his first live performance in 15 years.

He then followed it up by taking part in the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Cardiff, Wales (2011), where he was joined by the King of Pop's sister La Toya Jackson on stage.
Heavy D's latest last media appearance came in response to a cameo appearance in the new movie Tower Heist, starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, playing a courthouse guard.
